Autochthons

The Autochthons were clones created by the criminal mastermind, Anteus, to serve as his bodyguards and assistants. Named for mythological mortals who had sprung from the earth itself, the Autochthons were bio-engineered from Anteus’ own DNA to serve specific functions. The clones were artificially aged and “programmed” with appropriate skills via the same memory-extraction technology Anteus had used to transfer his consciousness into a cloned body of his own.

The Autocthons were grouped into sofoí and spartoí. The sofoí (“sages”) were technicians and scientists who aided Anteus in his research. The spartoí (‘’dragon-sown’’) formed Anteus’ private army. While differing greatly in their physical and mental capabilities, the members of both groups were identical in appearance and resembled Anteus before he gained his paranormal powers.

After Anteus’ second defeat at the hands of the Sentries, the Autochthons were taken into custody by NEST. All 100 clones died of heart failure within the following 36 hours. It is not know if this was a result of some flaw in the clones’ design, a failsafe purposefully engineered by Anteus, or an indication that the clones were gizmos that could not function without their creator.

Anteus kept less than a dozen sofoí around to help maintain Irassa and assist him in his experiments. They had no combat capabilities and do not count towards his Minion tally.

The spartoí served as Anteus’ security force. They were divided into ten squads of five men, and each spartoí was equipped with a zapgun called a “mass-driver”. In addition to projecting destructive bolts of energy, the mass-driver could also generate electromagentic force for use as defensive shields or to restrain targets without injuring them. Individually these weapons were no real threat to most paranormal opponents, but the spartoí were experts at increasing the effectiveness of their weapons through coordinated attacks.
